David Michael Smeenge, MD, FAAFP, Transitional Year Program DirectorDr. Smeenge was born and raised in Holland, Michigan where he marched in Tulip Time parades, worked at a local summer camp, and built robots. He obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from Michigan Technological University and engaged in research and development of polymeric biomaterials. During medical school at Wayne State University, he wrote an electronic medical record system for free clinics and was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society. He completed the majority of his Family Medicine Residency at Resurrection Health in Memphis, TN (now Cahaba Urban Program in Birmingham, AL) until its closure, and finished the remainder of his residency at Trinity Health Hospital in Livonia. His professional interests include Global Health with a focus on the Middle East, underserved care in faith-based Federally Qualified Health Centers, quality care and mortality analysis, and training residents to go anywhere they are called to go. He served as Associate Program Director in Family Medicine for three years prior to assuming responsibility as the Transitional Year Program Director. He remains on faculty with the Trinity Health Family Medicine Program and is board certified in Family Medicine. |

Preeti Misra, MD, Internal Medicine Program DirectorDr. Misra is the Program Director for the Internal Medicine Residency Program. Before taking on the role as the Program Director, she has been a core faculty member at Trinity Health Livonia Hospital and Sinai Grace Hospital/Detroit Medical Center. She is a graduate of the Internal Medicine residency program at Sinai Grace Hospital/Wayne State University. She is board certified in Internal medicine and has a strong interest in Quality Improvement and Research. She is also the lead faculty for Research and Quality Improvement for the Internal Medicine program at Trinity Health Livonia Hospital. Her interests include teaching an Evidence Based Medicine Curriculum, helping residents with their scholarly activity and teaching and mentoring residents in high value care. She is a physician champion with the HMS/BCBSM initiative and involved with multiple QI activities. Dr. Misra's professional affiliations include the American College of Physicians, AHME, and several regional and national societies. |

Jillian DeWitt, Program AdministratorJillian is a Central Michigan University Healthcare Administration graduate. In addition to her role with the Transitional Year program, she also serves as the medical student administrator. She previously worked in continuing medical education. Outside of work, Jillian is an avid animal lover and is certified in dog and cat CPR. |
