Why I chose this program/location for my training

I have enjoyed serving the community of Muskegon since moving here in 2018. In terms of medical training, Trinity Health Muskegon has a large medical community and access to tertiary care centers in Grand Rapids. This allows me to be able to learn directly from highly trained specialists, while still maintaining a focus on becoming a community physician who values patient care and patient goals as the most important aspect of providing high level health care.

Outside of work, I enjoy golf, kayaking, hiking and taking my dogs to the beach to play fetch and swim.

Why I chose this program/location for my training

I was looking for a program where I could really dive into my patient care. I didn’t want to simply train as someone that sits behind a computer and calls others to do my bidding. Trinity Health Muskegon, as it is an unopposed program, gives the opportunity to do all the procedures that you otherwise might have to hand off. I also felt right at home when I came for my audition rotation.

I made plans on making West Michigan my new home shortly after moving up here so from a life standpoint I am thrilled. Finally, the fact that this is a four year program makes me confident that I will leave here feeling confident that I will have the tools to tackle anything coming my way once I am on my own.

Hobbies/interests outside of work

I absolutely love to golf, which is both a blessing and a curse. I enjoy hiking and biking with my fiancee as well as exploring new areas in Michigan and checking more and more national parks off the list! Computer games are also a hobby of mine when I get some free time. I enjoy watching golf on television, Formula 1, and just going out for a drive on a nice windy road.

Trinity Health Grand Rapids is a supportive and welcoming program, which was clear on my interview day. I was struck by the collaborative environment and how approachable and connected the faculty and residents seemed. The program offers a strong foundation through its core rotations while also providing the flexibility to pursue electives that will support my future training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Having grown up in Grand Rapids, I’m excited to return home for this next chapter. West Michigan has so much to offer, from the beauty of the Great Lakes to a vibrant and diverse local community.

I chose emergency medicine because I love the fast paced, ever-changing environment. I also love the ability to be able to perform procedures and the acuity of patient care.

Muskegon was my base hospital during my last two years of medical school, and I really enjoyed being there. I am from West Michigan and wanted to stay near family and friends. I also thought the patient population, interesting pathology and high volumes would provide me ample learning opportunities. The residents and physicians also made me feel welcome and a part of the team, which was really important to me.

I chose emergency medicine because I enjoy treating patients of all ages with a wide range of clinical presentations, from patients seeking urgent or primary care to the critically ill. Not knowing what challenges the next shift will bring keeps things interesting and motivates me to keep learning and refining my skills.

While on an EM Ultrasound rotation in Muskegon, I was impressed by the quality of education/experience the program provides and the comradery between the residents and attendings. I’m excited for the opportunity to train at an unopposed program with multiple clinical sites.

I enjoy spending time outdoors with family and friends. I am an avid runner, snowboarder, surfer and ice climber. I’m excited to take advantage of the running and biking trails in West Michigan over the next few years and hope to get a few post-shift surf sessions in Lake Michigan as well.

Why I chose this program/Grand Rapids for my training

Trinity Health Grand Rapids seemed like the perfect fit for me! It offers a great variety of different clinical experiences, whether that be practicing in different settings or the wide array of sub-specialty experiences offered. It also has the academic backing from the largest group of neuroscience faculty and first comprehensive neuroscience center in West Michigan. But most importantly, when I interviewed I could see the great relationships developed between faculty and residents and among the residents themselves. All this, plus being able to live in one of my favorite places in the world - Michigan's west coast - made the choice for residency easy!

I grew up in Michigan and absolutely love the west side of the state. Grand Rapids is a short drive away and I’m close to some of the best beaches in the United States. I love Muskegon’s hospital environment, the interactions I have had with the physicians and staff, and I appreciate that the faculty is driven to create excellent emergency physicians.

At Trinity Health Muskegon, I get to work as an emergency medicine physician handling all manner of cases, performing procedures, and get to act as the team lead when running resuscitations. Most of all, I felt like it was the best fit for me. I chose emergency medicine because I love the variety of patients and disease states, the procedures, learning to predict the unpredictable and being able to learn from the different cases.

I chose to complete my Transitional Year at Trinity Health Grand Rapids because of its strong alignment with my personal and professional values, as well as the program’s commitment to resident support and development. The leadership and faculty are deeply invested in both the education and well-being of their trainees.

Practicing in a Catholic, mission-driven hospital that prioritizes compassionate service—especially to those most in need—reflects my commitment to caring for others in a purposeful and values-centered environment. This supportive and nurturing setting offers an excellent foundation for developing the clinical knowledge and skills essential to my future in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Why I chose this program/location for my training

I have enjoyed serving the community of Muskegon since moving here in 2018. In terms of medical training, Trinity Health Muskegon has a large medical community and access to tertiary care centers in Grand Rapids. This allows me to be able to learn directly from highly trained specialists, while still maintaining a focus on becoming a community physician who values patient care and patient goals as the most important aspect of providing high level health care.

Why I chose this program/location for my training

I chose Trinity Health Grand Rapids due to the interactions I had with the pharmacy team during my interview. I felt heard and seen by all and knew that I would be fully supported during this rigorous year of growth as a pharmacist. The culture and values of the health system truly aligned with my own and I am very excited to be joining the team!

Hobbies/what I do outside of work

I love going to concerts, thrift shopping, and attending Michigan football/Detroit sports games! I am excited to be back on the West side of the state to enjoy Lake Michigan and the beach. I also love to read, go on walks and explore new restaurants!

Why I chose this program/location for my training

During my medical school rotations, I had a very influential learning experience with a school affiliated Trinity Health location, along with an amazing time in Grand Rapids for a rotation. I was impressed to see Trinity Health Grand Rapids provide high quality training with a strong emphasis on patient care and positive working environments. For a bonus the Grand Rapids area provides endless things to do outside of work! I am so excited to be joining Trinity Health Grand Rapids for my transitional year!

I ride horses competitively, love to golf casually in the summer, ski in the winter, and stay active whenever I can! My husband and I love exploring all that Michigan has to offer from lake life to cute beach towns to up north exploring!

After I complete my training, I want to practice at a critical access hospital. The variety and patient volume at this program gives me the confidence that I will be able to comfortably practice on my own with limited resources when the time comes. Muskegon has the right balance of autonomy and supervision that I feel best fits my learning style.

Why I chose this program/location for my training

I have lived in the Grand Rapids area for the last 25 years. I did my Family Medicine Residency with Trinity Health here. I met my wife, Jennifer, here during residency. I had two kids here, Ella and Sydney. The rest is history! My roots are here in West Michigan.

The Hospice & Palliative Medicine program is meaningful to me, because two of my closest mentors are part of this fellowship – Dr. John Mulder and Dr. Patrick Fitzgibbon. Dr. Mulder slowly encouraged me to enter this field over decades. Although this is an immense time of grieving and transition, I hope to make Dr. Mulder proud. The doctors that carry the legacy forward are excellent and I know I will learn much.

Hobbies/interests outside of work

Outside of work, I enjoy walking our dog Max (labradoodle), running, spending time with family and being in nature. I also like encouraging family in their pursuits – Jennifer and Ella with horse riding, Ella with playing horse polo, Sydney playing basketball, etc.

I love spending time outside when it's nice out and venturing out to Lake Michigan. My husband and I have lots of pets that we care for and are hoping to start the process of fostering dogs!

Why I chose this program/location for my training

I chose to pursue a PGY1 pharmacy residency at Trinity Health Grand Rapids because of the welcoming environment and strong mentorship I experienced on my student rotation. The balance of high expectations as well as genuine support left a lasting impression, and I knew I would enjoy working in this environment as a resident. I was also excited by the opportunity to continue growing clinically through a variety of learning experiences tailored to my interests.

Outside of work, I love spending time at Lake Michigan, going to concerts, listening to podcasts, trying out new restaurants around Grand Rapids and getting together with friends and family. I always try to take advantage of everything West Michigan has to offer!
