Jennifer McLeod, MD

Dr Jennifer McLeod attended Albion college with a visual arts scholarship. She received her Bachelor’s Degree with a major in Psychology, double minors in Biology and Art. She worked for the Marine Biology Shark Research Laboratory studying nurse sharks, and graduated at the top of her class with Magna Cum Laude, and several national honors societies including Phi Beta Kappa, Sigma Xi, Beta Beta Beta, and Psi Chi.

She then graduated from Wayne State University School of Medicine, as part of the Aesculapian Honor Society, and stayed in Michigan to continue her medical training. She completed her general surgery residency at the Detroit Medical Center with the Wayne State University/ Michael and Marian Ilitch Department of General Surgery.

In the middle of her residency training, she spent three years at the University of Michigan doing research and critical care. As a Research Fellow in the Extracorporeal Life Support (ECLS) Laboratory, she worked on projects such as the Artificial Placenta and Ex Vivo Heart Perfusion. She has 17 publications, 6 as primary author, 23 oral presentations, and 23 poster presentations at research conferences. She was awarded the Bradley Hill Innovation Award for best abstract at the Annual Children’s National ECMO Symposium. She then completed a Surgical Critical Care Fellowship, managing both pediatric and adult critically ill patients.
